On Thursday, August 22, at 5 pm the Town of Webb Historical Association's popular Local History Series will feature Lorraine Duvall with a presentation on her book: In Praise of Quiet Waters. The presentation will be held at the Old Forge Library, 220 Crosby Blvd.

Lorraine Duvall's book is an account of her 25-year search for adventure and spiritual renewal on the waters of the Adirondack Park. It includes reflective essays on canoeing many parts of the Adirondacks: Little Tupper Lake, the daunting Lake Champlain, the newly opened Essex Chain Lakes, and several more. Duvall intersperses these with comments on the evolution of her own wilderness ethic, the history of advocacy, and the quandary of navigation rights.

Lorraine hails from Keene, NY. Since retiring to the Adirondacks in 1995, Duvall’s varied civic and environmental endeavors have helped her to understand and respect the different perspectives of those who live in and visit the Adirondacks.

Every Thursday this summer the Local History series features a different speaker presenting a local history subject. The public is invited to come and enjoy the talks, ask questions, and share related information. The series is free and open to the public.

The last presentation of the Thursday Local History series will be on 8/29. Town of Webb Historian, Kristy Rubyor will talk about The Other Moss Lake Story: the Mohawk Tribe Occupation.
